Visitors...

Shane came to see us last week and I must say his baby skills impressed me! He drove through the first snowstorm of the year to get here. He was stuck on I-70 for hours...

Rob was here a few weekends ago too.  It is so nice to have visitors!

We went for Miles 1 month check today. He weighs 9lbs 4 1/2oz  and seems to be perfectly healthy, thank goodness. He is letting us get a bit more sleep and is starting to make lots of cute little noises.

The Last 3 1/2 Weeks...

I have been a mother for 3 1/2 weeks now... It's hard to believe how much my life has been changed by this tiny person.  As you can probably imagine, we have taken quite a few photos in the past few weeks.  I will try to keep this somewhat brief.

After almost a month of semi bed rest, I woke up the morning of September 23 to strong contractions 5 minutes apart.  I was at the hospital by noon, expecting to meet my baby later that day. My mom hopped on a plane from Oklahoma and my wonderful husband attended to my every need.  I was attempting a drug free birth.  We kept switching positions, walking the halls, sitting on the yoga ball, hanging out in the jacuzzi tub, squatting - It All Hurt.  I just wanted to curl up on the bed and moan.  At 4AM I was dilated to 9 and not progressing. We decided an epidural would help me deal with the pain and exhaustion. That was the best decision I ever made.   I was able to chat with my mom and take a nap.  John and my midwife also got some much needed sleep.  I started pushing at 9AM and Miles made his grand appearance at 11:24 - Sept. 24th, 2008.  I will never forget the moment they put him on my chest.  He was purple, screaming and snorting. Do all newborns snort?? Mine sure did.  It has pretty much stopped but he still does it sometimes when he is really upset.

Miles was jaundice so we spent three nights at the hospital.  He seemed quite content hanging out under the light.  We went home on Saturday.  My mom stayed with us for 2 weeks.  She was such a BIG help.  She took the night shift, cooked, cleaned and did endless loads of laundry.  I was sorry to see her go.

Miles LOVES movement and being held.  I don't know what I would do without my sling.  It's nice to hold him and have two free hands.  He loves his swing and is happy when we go on walks.  He's an awesome eater too and getting pretty chunky...
